In the picture below an electron was at rest for a long time at the origin. At t=0 the electron is accelerated to v = 0.86c where c is the speed of light. The picture is a snapsho ot the field lines at t = 2. Understand the structure of the field lines. Note that where the density of lines is greater - the magnitude of the electric field is greater. This picture and the one below are from the text by Purcell.
In the picture below an electron was moving from the left to right for a long time. At t=0 is suddenly comes to rest at the origin. The snapshot shows the field lines at t=2. Understand this picture.
