These five 'structured' labs are meant to introduce you to the tools (analysis software, motion detectors, simulation software, movie analysis) you wil need to carry out your projects.

The above labs are meant to make you familiar with equipment, software and techniques. After doing these labs you and you partner(s) will take on a project. See the projects from last year (click on the link to "Current Projects" here)
Lab PartnersLab work should be done with a partner. Partners can collaborate on reports. No more than three people per team.
Lab Reports & WebsitesPlease read these very specific guidelines for your Honors P222 website and lab reports.
Error AnalysisIt is important to understand the concepts of random errors and systematice errors in doing experiments. This website from U of Michigan has a nice discussion. Please read through the discussion of error analysis presented here. We will be discussing errors in more detail throughout the semester.
Also - see my notes on error analysis when I taught optics.
Lab NotebookYou should buy a lab notebook and use it throughout the semester. I recommend getting a bound quadrille (pages look like graph paper). Use this to record what you did, make sketches and record data. You will not have to turn this notebook in for grading (we will use your written reports) but believe me - you will find it very helpful to carefully and systematically keep your notebook up to date.
