Alva Richard Hendricks of Bloomington passed away Monday, July 6, 2009, at Monroe Hospital. He was 77 years old.

Born April 2, 1932, in Bloomington, IN, he was the son of Herman and Doris (McDonald) Hendricks. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. Alva retired from the Indiana University Physical Plant where he had worked as a mechanical engineer. He was proud of his military service, he enjoyed restoring antique automobiles, antique clocks and spending time working around his farm.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lois (Roberts) Hendricks of Bloomington; two daughters, Linda Dzierba and her husband Alex of Bloomfield, IN, and Betsy Reese and her husband Pat of Clarksville, TN; one sister, Delores Bell of Bloomington, IN; one brother, Larry Hendricks of Bloomington, Indiana; five grandchildren, Christopher Dzierba, Justin Tayloe, Jordan Tayloe, Jarrod Tayloe and Hunter Reese; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Herman Hendricks Jr.

Funeral Services were held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old State Rd. 37. Burial will follow at Garrison Chapel Cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation was held on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
