Bonaire

Bonaire is one of the 'ABC' islands (along with Aruba and Curacao) located about 65 miles north of Venezuela. It is part of the Netherlands Antilles. Bonaire has an area of about 100 sq mi and a population of about 15,000.  On all our trips we have stayed at Eden Beach which is not far from Kralendjik, the capital of Bonaire.

The little island (Klein Bonaire) west of Bonaire is uninhabited.  The point on the island closest to Klein Bonaire is the approximate location of Eden Beach.

All the dive sites we visited, except for Lac Cai, are on the west shore.  Lac Cai is located at the bay in the southeast shore of the island.  All the dives were shore dives.

Lizards, donkeys and goats freely roam the island.

The Cargill salt works is located on the southwest shore.  Sea water is brought to evaporation ponds.  Piles of salt are transfered to ships.  The  small huts were used by workers for eating and resting.
